SCHOOL CLOSURES

School closures have devastating consequences for students, families, and communities. When a school closes, students are uprooted from familiar environments, disrupting their learning, emotional well-being, and social connections.

For many families, schools are more than just educational institutions—they are vital community hubs that provide resources such as meals, counseling, and extracurricular programs. Closures disproportionately affect low-income and marginalized communities, exacerbating inequities and limiting opportunities for students who already face systemic barriers. School closures can have a deeply negative impact on neighborhoods, as schools are often more than just educational institutions—they are the heart of a community. They serve as gathering places that bring people together for events, activities, and shared experiences, fostering a sense of unity and belonging. Without a local school, neighborhoods may lose a vital hub that preserves their identity and strengthens connections among residents. Additionally, when schools close, it can lead to reduced investment in the area, as families and community members may feel less engaged or rooted in their surroundings.

Additionally, school closures often lead to overcrowded classrooms in receiving schools, straining teachers and diminishing the quality of education. Instead of closing schools, we must prioritize innovative solutions that address the root causes of declining enrollment and funding while ensuring that every child has access to a stable, supportive learning environment.

When working against school closures in our community, I recognized the need to balance preserving our schools with addressing the growing costs and the ever-present threat of state intervention in Texas.

I will collaborate with families, educators, and community leaders to advocate for solutions that prioritized keeping schools open while maintaining fiscal responsibility. I will work  to ensure that our efforts are focused on protecting the vital role schools play in our neighborhoods, while also being proactive about addressing budgetary concerns and demonstrating accountability to prevent state overreach. By fostering transparency and community involvement, we were able to push for creative, sustainable strategies to safeguard our schools and strengthen our district.

COMMUNITY TRUST

As a teacher and parent, I have been frustrated by the lack of transparency and community participation in the decisions that affect our families and educators. Too often, critical decisions are made behind closed doors, leaving those most impacted—parents, students, and teachers—without a voice. I am committed to advocating for open communication, accountability, and meaningful engagement to ensure that our community is included in shaping the future of our schools. Together, we can demand a system that values collaboration and puts the needs of our children first.

When decisions are made without proper community input, it erodes trust and weakens the bond between families, educators, and decision-makers. These decisions not only disrupt students’ education but also displace them from their support networks and the familiar environments they rely on for stability. Parents and teachers, who are the backbone of our schools, deserve to be active participants in shaping policies that directly impact their lives. By fostering a culture of collaboration and transparency, we can work toward solutions that strengthen our schools and preserve their role as vital pillars of our neighborhoods.

FAIR EDUCATION FOR THE NORTHEAST

Education fairness means ensuring every student, regardless of background or zip code, has access to the resources and support they need to succeed. It’s about recognizing that different students need different levels of assistance to overcome barriers to learning. Fairness in education means providing high-quality teachers, safe schools, and tailored programs to meet the diverse needs of all students. Every district, including those in the Northeast and District 4, must receive the attention and investment necessary to ensure all students have the opportunity to thrive.

The Northeast and District 4 have long been neglected by those in power. The residents of this district deserve a representative who will not only listen to their concerns but will also fight tirelessly to bring the resources, attention, and opportunities that our community deserves. For too long, we've been overlooked and underserved, while other areas receive the focus and investment they need. It's time for change. It's time for a representative who will stand up for District 4 and the Northeast, ensuring that our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our future is prioritized.

As a candidate for the EPISD School Board Trustee, I am committed to ensuring that every part of our district receives equitable resources and opportunities, particularly District 4. I will fight to ensure that our district gets its fair share, advocating for fair distribution of resources and working to address the unique needs of our community. Together, we can create a system that provides equal opportunities for all students across the district.
